We have to say it, Martha Stewart’s site is must-visit for all crafty, foodie, and creative person out there. Overflowing with ideas, we just love the easy to follow articles like this home-office desk from the Fabulous and Fast Furniture. Not to mention the many downloadable templates.

It’s a ball!

After visiting Kozui, a green tea cafe owned by our friend, this tutorial on paper folding came to mind. Called kusudama, this video is easy to follow and looks like a fun way of reusing paper *not to mention the first flower is colored yellow, the color of the democracy fighter Cory Aquino who recently passed away) A variation would be the tamatebako, a cube and a gift box. Check it out here.

paper toys

It’s been raining most of the time these days. Going out doesn’t appeal that much but sure, we all do need a break. Or perhaps, try your hands at something new.

These free papertoys from Marshall Alexander, a Dutch paper engineer will keep you busy.

Blurb Yourself

Ever wondered how creative you really are? This is your chance to find out. We just discovered this wonderful website where you can be your author, layout artist, publisher, all rolled into one. Simply put, you have total creative control over anything you want to produce, as long as it’s in book format, that is.

It’s www.blurb.com. Yes, the ubiquitous term used to describe any kind of copyrighted work is now a verb. The website is the perfect venue for writers, photographers, artists to publish themselves and their works without the hassles and trappings of going through the usual avenue. It’s your work, your effort at your own pace.

Blurb.com is one of the fastest growing “publish yourself” websites proliferating in cyberspace these days. With ready templates and formats, it’s a no-fuss approach to achieving literary acclaim.

Not Horsing Around

So we have all been very, very busy. Working like horses, really. But this craft we found through www.designspongeonline.com is a great way to just give the thinking hat a break. And it involves making horses!

Taking a break from working with fabric swatches from Sunbrella, here is a special message for a special woman—daughter, wife, friend, mother, interior designer, Pauline Cuevas-Bato. We love you!

Re-using Paper

One of us is a bit addicted in making stuff out of used paper. On one weekend, she managed to weave some paper mats from old magazine pages and then made a small gift bag by joining  two small mats with strips of used white paper, adding a handle and a home-made gift tag. It is not much but hey, this was made while watching television. And boy, this was very tedious!

Watch out for more stuff out of these paper mats. If you like the idea but do not like making your own, check out some products from Echo Store in Serendra.

Manila FAME

After having seen such beautiful vignettes in the past years of one of our favorite design shows, this year’s show broke our hearts. The lobby was a bit too plain and the displays were not as mind-blowing as we hoped they will be. Is it because of the economic crisis or is it because we expected too much?

Manila FAME is open to the public on 18 April 2009.

DIY Album and CD Cover

As it is the bridal shower of our friend, Verl Ramos (who, before her current stint in Singapore was a former associate editor of a home and lifestyle magazine. She also has interior design units so she merits the mention =P), we were looking for things to make for her party. We chanced upon this post on Curby.com on creating your own CD cover from paper. This we thought was perfect for a future CD one of us created by following instructions from a Facebook note tag from landscape architect Mary Claire Villanueva in Singapore.
DOD's future album
Don’t you think this album is perfect for Drunk on Design?
Interested to create your own? Well, to do this:
1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 – Use photoshop or a similar editing program to put it all together.

If you are really feeling it, make a playlist of  “what designers should be listening to for inspiration,” burn it on a CD and give to your favorite designer. We would appreciate it if you would send one to us, too.
Cheers!
